Course Introduction and Description:
Sheringham Golf Club was founded in 1891. It is a varied course enjoying views off its cliff top site. The most spectacular holes are those at the very edge of the cliffs. 5th, 6th and 7th, but as the course edges in land, gorse becomes a persistent threat.
The Club has a distinguished golfing history and is proud to have hosted many major amateur events. Many of golf's most famous names have also played here. Henry Cotton is quoted, "Sheringham has a charm that belongs to itself ... and is one of the best kept secrets in golf… Sheringham's golf course is special."
The undulating fairways and fast, true greens will prove a test to all standards of golfer. There is a large practice area with bunkers and facilities including pitching areas, practice nets and practice putting greens, there is also an indoor practice and coaching facility.
Photographs of the great Harry Vardon who partnered James Braid in a 36 holes foursomes match at Sheringham against J H Taylor and Arnaud Massy in September 1908 (all were Open Champions) as well as other historical artefacts line both sides of the corridor and you instantly start to feel the unique atmosphere of this prestigious venue.
