Course Introduction and Description:
Hunstanton is a very strong championship links course located on the beautiful north west Norfolk coast. Established in 1891 it is rated as one of Britain & Ireland's 'Top 100' courses.
Described as 'one of the country's hidden gems', you can play Hunstanton on seven consecutive days and imagine you have played seven different courses – the magic never fades.
Hunstanton links is a classic 'out and back' design, on either side of a central spine or dune ridge. The 12th, 13th and 14th holes play across this ridge. The course has been altered many times. 40 bunkers were added in 1907, on the advice of James Braid (one of the Great Triumvirate).
The most notable feat, never to be repeated, occurred in the The Eastern Counties Foursomes in 1974. Bob Taylor, a Leicestershire County player, holed in one on three successive days at the 16th (188 yards) with a 1 iron, 6 iron and 6 iron. 31 years later (2005) he played the hole again and put his tee shot 6 feet from the hole!
